Design school Kolding invites applicants for a position as Associate Professor in Design with competences in sustainability and design methods. The applicants must hold a specialty in textiles and clothing.

Sustainability & Design is a strategic focus area at Design School Kolding. Over the years we have built great expertise in sustainability and design through research, artistic development, and education. The school is among the leaders in the field and collaborates with leading universities and companies. Generating knowledge by experimenting through doing and creating is at the center of our work.

We seek a candidate who can document experience with practice-based design research (research through design). The present position is linked to the Lab for Sustainability and Design.



The position:
Design school Kolding is looking for an associate professor with expertise in textiles and clothing, who is also interested in developing at an institutional level and with the outside world in a synergy between theory and practice.

The ideal candidate applicant has a strong interest and documented experience in the development of knowledge through research and artistic development within the field of sustainability and design. Design School Kolding wishes to strengthen the research focus in and around the designer's workshop, where the development and creation of prototypes is a natural part of generating knowledge. The applicant must have design skills and competences in the development of textile and material prototypes.

We emphasize a strong synergy between teaching and research in the school's development of knowledge through research-based teaching as well as teaching-based research. At Design School Kolding we focus on developing new learning formats and actively involving and developing design methods to be at the forefront of the designer's practice, role, and influence in society. We are therefore looking for an applicant who has experience with design pedagogical development.

As an associate professor in this position, you have a strong design methodological profile, which can contribute to strengthening ongoing methodological and theoretical approaches in the Lab for Sustainability and Design. Ideally, your research profile is oriented around user involvement, as part of investigating an extended user understanding concerning sustainability and design.

Interdisciplinarity and teamwork are core concepts in the school's way of teaching, in projects and in daily work. You must be able to participate in both disciplinary and interdisciplinary contexts and thrive in many different roles and many different types of projects and teaching. As an associate professor at Design School Kolding, you are preoccupied with both knowledge development and education. The ideal applicant must contribute to strengthening research, communication, fundraising and education within the field.

As an associate professor at Design School Kolding it is expected that you can teach at BA level (Danish language and disciplinary focus), MA level (English language and interdisciplinary focus) and supervise at PhD level (Danish or English).



The application must contain:

  • A motivation letter of a maximum of 3 pages.
  • A detailed CV
  • Degree certificates (including PhD-diploma).
  • A complete and numbered list of published publications with clear indications of which of these have been peer-reviewed.
  • A maximum of 5 peer-reviewed publications.
  • A teaching portfolio detailing the candidate’s prior teaching experience, teaching competencies, and teaching philosophy.
  • A research plan detailing the candidate’s ideas and plans for future research work including how it contributes to the research in Lab for Sustainability and Design.

The application must be written in English.

The application deadline is Monday April 15, 2024 at 23.59 CEST.

After the application deadline, a shortlist of the most promising applicants will be made, which will then be assessed. When the committee has finished its review procedure, each shortlisted applicant will receive an assessment of the application.

Interviews are expected to take place shortly after the hearing process has finished.

Once the recruitment process is completed, all applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application.



Terms of employment:
The successful applicant will be employed under the applicable collective agreement with the Ministry of Finance, the position structure for artistic and scientific staff at Kolding School of Design and the organization entitled to negotiate.

We expect the successful applicant to start as soon as possible after the assessment and interviews.
