The Department of Entrepreneurship and Relationship Management invites applicants for a 3-year PhD Scholarship in the field of Participatory Innovation. The position is open from November 1st 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter and the workplace is located in Kolding.

The Department of Entrepreneurship and Relationship Management (IER) offers a dynamic and entrepreneurial work environment in which collaboration and teamwork spirit are fundamental parts of the department culture. Our department has activities in Kolding and Sønderborg with approx. 50 employees engaged in research and teaching in the fields of entrepreneurship, organization, management, B2B marketing, supply chain management and design.

This PhD research will contribute to new ways of teaching communication with patients and relatives within health care. It should combine the perspectives of participatory innovation and complex responsive processes of relating. We offer a position with a chance to collaborate with organisational researchers, interaction designers and design anthropologists. We build on a strong tradition of practice-based research and close collaboration with public and private institutions.

The PhD position is partly funded by the three-year EU interregional project ATHENA that aims to develop new interactive teaching methods together with teachers from University Colleges and students in Denmark and Germany; methods that embrace learning as a generative iteration of knowledge and knowing through doing, making and relating within the health sector. The project provides an excellent field for ethnographic research and action research into health care teaching practices and the impact on development of work practice and identity for health care professionals such as nurses. The PhD student will be expected to take part in this work.

The PhD project proposal should describe research in the field of innovating health education. In particular we will look for experimental design research relating to the scope of the ATHENA project.

We invite candidates with a relevant master’s degree within design, business or alike. Documented experience with design research and the concept of complex responsive processes of relating will be an advantage. Only applicants with high grades will be considered for the position and applicants with a publication record will be preferred.  As the PhD position will also include possible changes in teaching curricula, documentable experience with administrative procedures in education will be an advantage.

The PhD programme includes an individual education programme with course-work equivalent to 6 months. PhD research includes a 3-6 month stay at a research institute abroad and, over the period of the programme, you will acquire experience of teaching or dissemination activities. You are expected to participate in general research activities at the department.
